Driver injured in truck rollover near Talwood

Emergency services were called to an incident where a driver was trapped in the wreckage of a rolled truck near Talwood on Friday afternoon.The man was freed and treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital with suspected leg injuries.

He travelled in a stable condition.

On Thursday afternoon, a truck driver was injured after a truck which was towing a car trailer and vehicle crashed on the Warrego Highway and Nugent-Pitch Road near Toowoomba.

Safe Work Australia statistics show there was a 48 percent decrease in the annual number of work-related injury fatalities in the road freight transport industry over the last four years. Despite this, fatality rates in the industry were roughly ten times higher than those for all industries across the eight years up to 2011.

And according to the Work-related Fatalities Involving Trucks, Australia, 2003 to 2012, in the 10 year period from 2003 to 2012, 787 workers died in incidents involving trucks. These deaths amount to 30% of all worker fatalities over this period.
